Disagreeing & Find Connection
In 1992, Berkeley, California in the San Francisco Bay Area, became the first city in the United States to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day, recognizing Indigenous communities and acknowledging the history of European conquest.
Over time, other cities followed, and Indigenous Peoples Day became recognized across the country.
Whether we call it Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day, I've found myself thinking less about the holiday itself and more about what it brings up for me.
Lately, I've been pondering the growing divisions among us and what feels like a loss of connection. Our differences in beliefs, values, and opinions seem more pronounced than ever.
How do we maintain our own beliefs while making room for someone who sees the world differently?
A Question for the Tarot
How can we disagree and still find connection?
For this past, present, and future reading, the cards I pulled are:
Past: Knight of Earth/Pentacles (stay grounded)
The Knight of Earth reminds us of the value of patience, persistence, and moving forward slowly and methodically without becoming overwhelmed. We've learned that listening to different opinions without getting bent out of shape can help us find common ground. The intention is set to find connection.
Present: Knight of Fire/Wands (be courageous)
Now it's time to move forward with confidence. The Knight of Fire is daring, adventurous, and willing to take risks. This card encourages us to move beyond our fears, rethink old assumptions, and rekindle connections. With passion and an open mind, we can even begin to build new alliances.
Future: Two of Fire/Wands (envision a new direction)
The Two of Fire invites us to take a new direction. By looking back at what has worked before, we can recognize old patterns and discover new possibilities. We have the opportunity to create a different future, one that makes room for kindness, beauty, and passion.
A Final Thought - The cards remind us that patience, courage, and a willingness to see new possibilities can help us move forward together.
