What Lies Beyond the Veil?

Two Tarot cards invite us to explore our connection to the unseen

Halloween is closely connected to the ancient Celtic celebration of Samhain, marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year.

Traditionally, Samhain was believed to be a time when the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds grew thin, allowing spirits to move more freely between them.

People wore costumes to disguise themselves from wandering spirits, and food was left out as an offering. Over time, these customs evolved into some of our familiar Halloween traditions.

Beyond today's festivities, Samhain remains a time of transition, remembrance, and honoring those who came before us. It's an opportunity to reflect on life's cycles and deepen our connection to the unseen.

The word hallow means to honor or regard something as sacred. Perhaps this is an invitation to do just that.

To honor this tradition, I pulled two Tarot cards:

  1. How can we deepen our connection with our ancestors?

  2. How can we heighten our spiritual awareness?

The Emperor and The High Priestess are both Major Arcana cards, giving them greater significance than the Minor Arcana. They also represent opposite ends of archetypal family figures. The Emperor is the Earth father, an extrovert, while The High Priestess is the Water mother, an introvert.

Both archetypes are worthy of our trust.

How can we deepen our connection with our ancestors?

The reading suggests connecting with our dads from this lifetime, whether they are on this side of the veil or the other. This doesn't necessarily mean having a literal conversation, but perhaps connecting through meditation or an inner dialogue. Through this connection, we may gain access to ancestral wisdom that even our fathers may not have been aware of.

How can we heighten our spiritual awareness?

By placing our trust in The High Priestess, we can find greater emotional support and clearer access to our psychic abilities.

The image of The High Priestess in my Polarity Wellness Tarot is taken from a statue of Mother Mary. I'm reminded of the Beatles song Let It Be, in which Mother Mary offers words of wisdom during times of trouble.

To me, this is the essence of trusting The High Priestess and heightening our spiritual awareness.

As we enter the darker half of the year, perhaps we can take a moment to honor those who came before us, listen more closely to our intuition, and make room for whatever is ready to emerge.”
